Christine Keller, M.A., M.S.Ed.

...received her B.A. in English Literature (focusing on the Romantics & Transcendentalists with a minor in Women’s Studies) from PACE University and holds an M.A. in World Religions (concentrating in Eastern & Western Mysticism) from NYU.   She has a diverse 20-year teaching background (corporate and academic).

As an adjunct college professor, Christine teaches courses at SUNY College at Old Westbury including "World Religions" - Native American, African, Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, Shinto, Judaism, Christianity, & Islam and "The Study of Religion" - Indigenous Origins & the Development of Religion, Myth & Psyche (and) Women & Religion.

Christine founded Sangha Spirit in March 2003 with the goal of providing a specialized program offering for adults and children (with typical and special needs) on Long Island.  Christine has recently completed an M.S.Ed. in Childhood Education / Special Education, Autistic Spectrum Disorders Case Program at Long Island University, C.W. Post Campus.  Many new projects are in progress.  A new web site www.thechildrenssangha is in the development phase; to be completed by the Fall/Winter 2009.

The Children’s Sangha programs have developed into multi-sensory character education programs geared to support and promote the fact that we all learn differently.   Self-development and social awareness are thus fostered in a variety of ways enabling all children to learn and grow in unique directions.  Earth-consciousness or the understanding that all life is inter-dependent is the basis for the children’s curriculum.  New programs in the conception phase will address the needs of the general pubic and school environment(s) alike.  Such programs deal with alternative learning methods and approaches to education.

On a personal note, Christine is married and the mother of two children (a 10 year old son and a 6 year old daughter).  Christine’s son’s special needs have provided her with a greater depth of insight.  Both children have been a driving force in Christine’s work for all children.

Adult programs are offered on a more limited basis as of 2006+.  Regular adult programs will continue.  Adults are also welcome to audit/sit-in-on Christine’s college courses.  There will be new adult programs down the road…
